The black box has been recovered from, what has been called,
"The mystery Accident". An accident
that never should have happened. The crash was caught on several CC TV cameras from start to finish and have
been reviewed from every angle, but there is no apparent reason that it
happened. The recovered Black Box was quickly analyzed, but the recording was of a normal
airliner flight.
At first the maker of the Black Box had no comment, but
after repeated calls, they revealed, "this particular Box had been
returned, within the warranty period, and was marked, "to be
repaired". This was a normal procedure on returns, It would be repaired and placed on the shelve
and marked as "Remanufactured". This is normal with every
manufacturer of electronic equipment. Few Remanufactured items ever come back.
It is well with the statistical range for such products. In the process of
fixing the item the technician inadvertently forgot to replace the recording
mechanism. The technician recalled that he was right at that step, but his
break came up and if he didn't take it then he would lose it. Upon returning, he missed that step, but
finished the repair on time. "It was an honest mistake, I had to take my
break" said the technician. "We will send you a brand new one, and we're
sorry that you won't solve your mystery " the VP of manufacturing said.
